Call 000Before anything else
If water is coming in near lights, power points or the switchboard, don't touch them (see 'Water's got into the electrics').
What to do, in order
- Call VICSES on 132 500 if the roof is damaged or leaking significantly.
- For a minor leak, contact a roofer or other tradesperson, and your insurer.
- Stay inside and away from windows while the storm is on.
- Photograph the damage for your insurer.
- Call 000 if anyone's life is in danger.
Who to call
When you need a roofer
Book a roofer for permanent repairs once the storm has passed - VICSES only makes emergency temporary repairs. Renting? A serious roof leak is a legally urgent repair: call your rental provider or agent on the emergency number you were given and confirm it in writing.
Once everyone is safe, find a roofer who can come today.
Tradie2U shows which tradies near you are free now, today or tomorrow, with their call-out fee upfront. You ask one, and they have a set time to answer. Free, no card. This guide is in the app too, with the right number for your street.
